Organization Rules

  1. On August 7th, 2022, East Texas Hoops will require teams to pay a deposit to register their teams for tournaments. Starting August 1st 2023 You must have a report card showing year and grade a player is in. Each team will bring their own warm up balls. Game ball will be picked from one of the teams’ warm up balls.

  2. We will not tolerate non sportsmanship by teams, coaches and fans. If we feel that your team doesn’t need to come back we will let you know that your banned from playing with us.

  3. Home team in bracket or pool play will furnish game ball if deemed acceptable quality by referees.

  4. Each team will furnish a clock keeper or a book keeper.

  5. Players are allowed to play in their current age division (i.e. 6th grader going into 7th grade may still play in 5th/6th grade division) until the beginning of the following school year. Younger players will be allowed to play up should they choose to do so. If a player graduates from High School ( he or she) is no longer eligible to participate in East Texas Hoops events. We will not tolerate upper classmen playing down. Each player will need a School annual with there picture in it to prove what grade they are in.

Age Group Regulations

  • 3rd and 4th grade: games will be played on 10 ft. goals during play days and tournaments. Summer games will be played on 10 foot goals. After March 27th through the rest of summer ALL divisions will play by U I L Rules. Calls will be made regarding these regulations by East Texas Hoops officials. Games will be played in 9 minute quarters with a running clock. Clock will stop in the last minute of the fourth quarter for every whistle if the point spread is within 9 points. Coaches will receive three (3) time outs per game. 28.5" basketballs will be used in this age group.

  • 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade: National Federation Rules will apply to these age groups. Games will be played in 9 minute quarters with a running clock. Clock will stop in the last minute of the fourth quarter for every whistle if the point spread is within 9 points or less. Pressing is not permitted after a 20 point lead. Boys in this age group will play with regulation boys ball. Coaches will receive three (3) time outs per game. 5/6 Boys will play with regulation size boys ball.

  • JV and Varsity: National Federation Rules will apply to these age groups. Games will be played in 9 minute running clock quarters. Clock will stop in the last minute of fourth quarter for every whistle if the point spread is within 9 points. Pressing is not permitted after a 20 point lead. Coaches will receive three (3) time outs per game.

Gameplay

  • Playdays: all age groups play 9 minute quarters with running clock. Only (3) time outs in Leagues or Play Days events.

  • Tournament Play:

    • Varsity - 9 minute quarters, running clock. Overtimes 1 minute running clock Second overtime is sudden death first to score is the winner.

    • All other age groups - 9 minute quarters, running clock.

    • Coaches will use no profanity towards players or Refrees automatic Tech

    • Coaches will abide by U I L Rules set up for coaches, coach boxes, professionalism also.
